Plea for the Starving in Niger

The Church of England Newspaper reports "Christian aid agency Tearfund has expressed its hope that the British government's decision to step up its commitment in Niger will pave the way for the international community to follow suit in trying to help the country's millions of starving people. The British government announced a total contribution of £3million this week, an increase of £1 million from their initial pledge. The move represents a significant success for aid agencies that had put pressure on the Government to do more to address the severe shortage of food in the country"

The UK has started a major public fundraising campaign today - which is pretty late considering it has been in the news for a couple of weeks. Better than never.

I checked out the US Red Cross website and was hard pressed to find an appeal for Niger similar to that of the UK. I don't understand that.
